Health and Safety Manager

Handley James are recruiting an experienced Health and Safety Manager for an exciting and innovative client of ours, a true market leader, specialising in construction materials and providing workable solutions to their customers all over the world.   The Health and Safety Manager will be based at their manufacturing facility in Blackburn, and will support the Operations Director in all health and safety matters. You will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance (including reporting), of all H&S management systems and driving adherence to local and corporate standards.   Key Responsibilities  
  • Ensure the site has robust systems and procedures inline with all relevant national legislation, ensuring a regular audit schedule is carried out
  • Act as the SME on site for all H&S matters
  • Working in partnership with the Operations Director in leading safety within the factory and demonstrating a world class and continuous improvement mindset
  • Supporting the leadership team in the delivery of thorough accident investigation, identifying training requirements and following up these with relevant team(s)
  • Ensure risk assessment are completed / maintained in line with sites schedule
  • Relevant reporting to operations director, leadership and Global H&S Director
  Key Requirements & Competencies  
  • NEBOSH general certificate or equivalent
  • Significant experience within a similar role within a manufacturing/industrial environment
  • Knowledge and experience of ISO9001, 14001 etc. standards
  • Experience investigating and reporting incidents and developing action plans
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of EU and UK safety legislation and understand current practices
  • Have experience carrying out risk assessments, reviewing existing controls and recommending improvements
  • Ideally have previous project management experience and managing multiple workstreams
  • Must be confident and comfortable with making interventions to discuss safe and unsafe behaviours, and challenging accepted practice in an appropriate and positive manner
  • Experience coaching and training multi-discipline teams
  • You will be a hands-on individual with a real understanding of ‘what good looks like’
