Production and Process Engineer

Our client is a global specialty chemical company that supports human well-being through the power of science and nature. With their goal to act with integrity in everything they do, delight the people they work with and deliver best-in-class solutions while creating value for all stakeholders.   The Halifax site houses five production plants and focuses on the manufacture of surfactants, materials which are used widely in shampoos, detergents and a variety of industrial processes such as textile manufacture, metal working and oilfields.  The site also makes biocides, products which remove bacteria from water, mainly for use in swimming pools.   Handley James has been retained to recruit an experienced Production and Process Support Engineer based at the Halifax site.  Reporting to Production Manager, your primary areas of responsibility will be:  
  • To provide support to the production area/team on a day to day basis
  • Support troubleshooting and plant/process optimisation
  • Monitor Production KPIs and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) in order to understand losses and develop improvement plans
  • Identify and develop plans to improve performance using LEAN management concepts
  • Process improvements & Optimisation of existing processes
  • Manage adherence to the health and safety management system to ensure compliance with company policy
  • Carry out and support on root cause analysis of non-conforming production and implement corrective actions
  • Manage the introduction of new products and processes into the site from conception to full production
  • Support in the Management and mentoring of student placements within the department
  • Act as site Key User for plant control systems
  • Engineering support for CAPEX projects
  • Liaise with Production shift leaders for all day-to-day activities as required by the Production Manager
  • Communicate and liaise internally/externally with outside contractors and suppliers
  • Facilitate day-to-day production activities, including liaison with QHSE, Maintenance, Supply Chain, QC
  • Expected to deputise in the absence of the Production Manager
  • Empowered to make decisions in conjunction with the Production Manager in all production and operations activities
  Skills   The successful candidate will need to be able to work effectively in a team and on your own initiative, have good problem solving abilities, and be self-motivated and confident with good communication skills, able to interact with senior managers and plant operators. A qualification in Health and Safety (IOSH/NEBOSH) would also be desirable along with knowledge of LEAN management concepts. As a minimum, you will be qualified to degree standard in a relevant discipline (Process/Chemical Engineering) with demonstrated experience within the chemical manufacturing industry, and have some knowledge of plant control systems.   In return our client are offering a salary of £40,000 - £50,000, 25 days holiday exc. Bank holiday and company benefits.
