Handley James are partnered with a global leader in construction materials and consultancy services, focusing on bringing innovation, sustainability, and market leading products to the construction industry. We are recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer/Senior Design Engineer who is looking to move into a supervisory/leadership capacity.   As a Senior Design Engineer (Team Leader) you will support the Design Services Manager in delivering a world class centre of design expertise, that supports the business in understanding the needs of the market, to support the design team with complex projects, designs, and clients. Lead the team through coaching, 121’s and daily communication ensuring design timescales and intricacies are met according with customer expectations.   Key Responsibilities  
  • Builds and drives an effective team through leadership, using appropriate styles of coaching, engagement, motivation, and monitoring to deliver success, continuous improvement, and customer communication
  • Proactively protect yours and the teams work life balance while remaining focused on ensuring safe working practices
  • Consistently produce accurate and full optimised design packages, ensuring all technical and customer information is correct in a timely manner and inline with the company’s brand to meet or exceed SLA and customer expectations
  • Working within the commercial team, ensure that agreed and appropriate SLA’s reflecting turnaround times for the production of designs are met
  • Manages and discharges the responsibility for the day-to-day coordination and review of design documentation and manage design workflow
  • Increases the design team’s skills, capability and confidence ensuring all team members have development plans that are regularly reviewed and fulfilled
Key Requirements & Competencies  
  • HND/HNC or Degree qualified (civil engineering, geology, structural engineering etc.) or equivalent with appropriate geotechnical experience
  • Be chartered or working towards chartership
  • Good industry knowledge of design codes i.e., BS8006, CDM etc.
  • Hold and able to apply a level of commercial awareness
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication
  • Experienced in mentoring and coaching remote and/or office-based teams
  • Strong IT skills with practical experience of Microsoft Office, CRM systems, ideally an understanding of Autocad
  • Current and valid driving license
  This role is based in Blackburn and may require some travel to customers as and when required. Offering a flexible and hybrid working policy – with 2/3 days from home and 2/3 days from the office.   This role is an exciting opportunity to join a global manufacturing business with huge future opportunities, the chance to develop and build upon the existing team.
